Happy Birthday Malala

Malala Yousafzai was born on July 12, 1997, in the beautiful Swat Valley of Pakistan. She is known for her courage, resilience, and advocacy for education. Malala’s father, Ziauddin Yousafzai, ran a learning institution in Mingora, Swat valley. Malala developed a strong thirst for knowledge at a young age, which would shape her future. In 2007, the Taliban imposed restrictions in the valley, banning girls from attending school and halting cultural activities. Malala bravely opposed this oppression by anonymously blogging on the BBC Urdu site. Her voice grew stronger, and she and her father became champions of girls’ access to quality education. This led to her nomination for the Peace Prize and Pakistan’s National Youth Peace Prize. A turning point came on October 9, 2012, when, at the age of 15, Malala was shot by the Taliban while travelling. Miraculously, she survived. Instead of being silenced, Malala’s voice grew louder. She continued her work, speaking worldwide about the importance of women’s education. In 2014, she became the youngest person ever to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
